This is achieved through a method known as self-attention, which enables the model to learn the correlations between text and images.

This technology allows the Image Creator to generate realistic images that blend concepts, attributes, and styles. Users can ask Bing Image Creator to produce images based on descriptions such as a “cat wearing a hat and sunglasses” or a “surreal painting of a pineapple”. The more detailed the user’s query, the more specific the resultant image. Users are advised to specify a subject, details, and the scene to optimize results. Instead of only using the Image Creator interface, users can also generate images iteratively within a Bing chat session.

The Rationale Behind Microsoft’s Phased Release

Microsoft initially introduced the Image Creator tool in select markets in October 2022, followed by a wider release in March. The company has also clarified the reasons for the staggered rollout.

Microsoft was committed to understanding the responsible use of AI and wanted to conduct comprehensive testing. While the Image Creator uses OpenAI’s advanced DALL·E model to generate AI images, Microsoft also prohibits the tool from creating potentially harmful content to individuals or society.

To ensure this, the company has established measures to block specific prompts and images, utilizing the months leading to the broader rollout to refine this strategy. Users who feel their images are unjustly blocked can appeal, thereby helping Microsoft refine its classifiers.

Currently in preview on Windows 11, Designer offers functionality comparable to Canva, enabling users to input textual prompts or upload images to generate unique designs. It leverages OpenAI’s DALL-E 2 text-to-image AI technology, equipping users with drop-down menus and text boxes for bespoke design tailoring.

“By articulating your idea’s concept in words or through an uploaded image, you can produce striking and exclusive visuals,” Microsoft explained in its announcement blog post. “Simply formulate an announcement post in communities to craft your individual banner using Designer.”

Initially unveiled in October of the previous year, Microsoft’s Designer can also be accessed through the web or a sidebar in the Edge browser. Subsequently, Microsoft introduced additional features such as automatic caption generation and animated visuals.

Microsoft seeks to monetize Designer by including it in their Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscription plans. While the precise cost of this has not yet been disclosed, Microsoft has assured that some aspects of the tool will be available free of charge, although it has not clarified which ones.

Community Channels for Teams on Windows and GroupMe Update

In addition, Microsoft Teams now provides community channels for comprehensive group communication and administration under a single platform, similar to Discord.

Initially rolled out for Android and iOS users in December, this feature is now accessible for Windows 11 Teams users, with plans to extend support to other platforms shortly.

Users can discover and join communities focusing on specific interests such as gardening or running via the Home tab on Teams. Community participants have the ability to use their mobile devices to generate and share videos, featuring new markup and filter options.

Finally, with GroupMe, Microsoft’s complimentary group messaging application, users can now initiate Teams calls directly from within a new or existing group conversation.

AI Copilot Integration with Windows 11

Microsoft is set to integrate its AI assistant, Copilot, into Windows 11. This is the same assistant currently employed across Microsoft Edge, Office apps, and GitHub. The Windows Copilot will be accessible via the taskbar. Upon clicking, it will launch the Copilot sidebar, where users can request assistance with text rewrites, explanations, and more in active apps. The feature is slated for public testing next month before being gradually rolled out to a broader user base.

Open Access to Amazon App Store for All Android Developers

Microsoft has declared the Amazon App Store open to all Android developers, inviting anyone interested in introducing their apps to Windows. Developers will have to submit their apps for testing in order to distribute them to Windows 11 devices. ChatGPT’s Default Search Experience Now Bing

“We are advancing towards expanding the ways people can engage with search and how developers can leverage our AI platform,” remarked Yusuf Mehdi, Head of Consumer Marketing at Microsoft.

Implications of Bing’s Integration with ChatGPT

Integrating Bing with ChatGPT means users can now receive even more current answers via web access.

“ChatGPT’s answers can now be backed by search and web data, including citations for deeper understanding—all of which can be accessed directly within chat,” Mehdi explained further.

This innovative experience is currently rolling out to ChatGPT Plus subscribers and will soon be available for free users. All they need to do is activate a plugin that links Bing with ChatGPT.

In addition, Microsoft and OpenAI have announced the development of AI plugins for the Bing search engine. These plugins will enable developers to create and submit tools that work across various consumer and business platforms, including ChatGPT, Bing, Dynamics 365 Copilot, Microsoft 365 Copilot, and Windows Copilot.

Introducing Copilot to Windows 11

Microsoft has also unveiled plans to introduce Windows Copilot, an AI-fueled virtual assistant, to its Windows 11 platform. It will function similarly to the previously announced Copilot in Edge and Microsoft’s suite of Office apps. Windows 11 users can access a chatbot in the sidebar to answer their inquiries.

The Copilot will be integrated within Windows 11 and can be accessed via the taskbar. This feature will start its preview rollout for Windows 11 users in June.
