Microsoft has offered insight into the technology and thought process that led to creating the Image Creator. Additionally, they have provided valuable tips to optimize the feature within the product.

The Image Creator leverages OpenAI’s advanced DALL·E model, a potent language model capable of generating coherent and varied text across diverse topics. Unlike typical language models that output text from the input text, DALL·E uses input text to output images. This is achieved through a method known as self-attention, which enables the model to learn the correlations between text and images.

This technology allows the Image Creator to generate realistic images that blend concepts, attributes, and styles. Users can ask Bing Image Creator to produce images based on descriptions such as a “cat wearing a hat and sunglasses” or a “surreal painting of a pineapple”. The more detailed the user’s query, the more specific the resultant image. Users are advised to specify a subject, details, and the scene to optimize results. Instead of only using the Image Creator interface, users can also generate images iteratively within a Bing chat session.

The Rationale Behind Microsoft’s Phased Release

Microsoft initially introduced the Image Creator tool in select markets in October 2022, followed by a wider release in March. The company has also clarified the reasons for the staggered rollout.

Microsoft was committed to understanding the responsible use of AI and wanted to conduct comprehensive testing. While the Image Creator uses OpenAI’s advanced DALL·E model to generate AI images, Microsoft also prohibits the tool from creating potentially harmful content to individuals or society.

To ensure this, the company has established measures to block specific prompts and images, utilizing the months leading to the broader rollout to refine this strategy. Users who feel their images are unjustly blocked can appeal, thereby helping Microsoft refine its classifiers.

Microsoft expects to receive an improved model from OpenAI that will offer better image quality, a detailed understanding of visual concepts, and thus more pertinent results. Users can test the Image Creator for free in English, wherever the new Bing is available.

For a premium experience, users can choose fully self-tracked Meta Quest Touch Pro Controllers. With Direct Touch, hand tracking is included as standard, allowing users to interact with virtual objects using their bare hands.

The Quest 3 is compatible with the Quest 2’s catalog of over 500 VR games, apps, and experiences, with even more VR and MR titles expected at launch.

Pricing and Availability

The Meta Quest 3 will be available for purchase starting this fall at a price of US$ 499.99 (approximately Rs. 41,160). More details will be unveiled at the Meta Connect event on September 27th.

Price Reduction for Meta Quest 2

The Meta Quest 2, initially priced at US$ 299.99 (approximately Rs. 24,700) for the 128GB variant, is returning to its original price following a $100 price increase. The 256GB version will now cost $349.99 (approximately Rs. 28,815). The revised pricing for Quest 2 will come into effect from June 4th.

About the Satellite

The NVS-01 satellite, a component of India’s satellite navigation system known as NavIC (originally named Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System or IRNSS), weighs 2,232 kg. The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) carried the satellite. NavIC operates similarly to a Global Positioning System (GPS).

The Indian satellite navigation system, NavIC, comprises nine satellites, seven in orbit and two on standby. As per a report from the IANS news agency, the NVS series of satellites are designed to maintain and enhance NavIC with upgraded features.

The NVS-01, with a mission lifespan of 12 years, is powered by two solar arrays that can generate up to 2.4kW of power, and it relies on a lithium-ion battery during eclipses. This series incorporates payloads that function on L1, L5, and S bands, indicating an expansion of services.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) states that the L1 navigation band is commonly used for providing Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) services for civilian use and for ensuring interoperability with other Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals.

“Apart from the L1 band, we have a highly secure code for strategic signals in the L5 and S bands,” a senior ISRO official stated.

ISRO highlights that NavIC can be used for various civil and strategic applications.

About the First-Generation Satellites

At present, there are eight first-generation NavIC satellites in orbit. According to a senior ISRO official cited by the news agency, four of these eight NavIC satellites are utilized for navigation services. At the same time, the rest are dedicated to messaging services.

India has launched nine first-generation NavIC satellites, including two standby ones. However, the first standby satellite was lost due to the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle’s (PSLV) heatshield, not opening.

Each satellite also houses three atomic clocks crucial for delivering accurate positional data.

In February, the CEO declared that the company planned to cut around 7,000 positions from its global workforce, with the job cuts occurring in three phases.

The first round of job reductions began in March, where Disney removed approximately 7,000 positions from its international workforce, aiming to save $5.5 billion. In the second round, the company, under Bob Iger’s leadership, dismissed 4,000 employees. The company disclosed that these workforce reductions constituted 30% of the overall figure, with another 50% resulting from cuts in marketing operations and 20% from reduced spending on technology, procurement, and other costs.

The job cuts happening this week are expected to push the total number of positions eliminated to over 6,500, nearing the 7,000 total announced by Iger.

Iger stated in a February earnings call, following Disney’s latest quarterly earnings report, “I do not make this decision lightly”. He further added, “We are going to take a really hard look at the costs for everything that we produce, both in television and film. Because things in a very competitive world have just simply become more expensive.”

Referring to Disney+ as a competitor to Netflix and Amazon Prime, he mentioned during the call, “We were in a global arms race for subscribers. I think we might have gotten a bit too aggressive in terms of our promotion; and we are going to review that.”

The company states that this advanced feature will enable online merchants’ customers to make UPI payments directly and seamlessly from the merchant’s mobile app, eliminating the need for redirection during checkout. This means customers can pay directly from their bank accounts by entering their UPI PIN without exiting the merchant app.

Paytm is promising customers four times faster UPI payments with the UPI SDK. It also projects a five-fold reduction in the needed taps and a complete eradication of external redirection. This will result in customers no longer having to toggle between merchant and payment apps to complete transactions. The outcome is fewer clicks, quicker transactions, improved success rates, and enhanced customer retention.

Benefits for Online Businesses

With the implementation of Paytm’s UPI SDK, online businesses can provide their customers with the ability to check account balances, create VPA handles, add more UPI-linked accounts, and set/reset UPI PIN in real-time, all within their app before making a payment.

This is part of the existing UPI acquiring arrangement between Paytm Payments Services Ltd. and Paytm Payments Bank. Paytm Payments Services Ltd provides UPI acquisition services to merchants in this arrangement. Paytm’s UPI SDK adds to this arrangement by enabling businesses to integrate the UPI payment system into their existing mobile apps using a low-code approach and customizable UI themes.

SDK Extends Beyond UPI

Besides UPI, the SDK will soon support additional payment types, such as UPI LITE and UPI on Rupay Credit Card, granting users more flexibility without necessitating further integrations.

Unfortunately, if the Voice Match feature is not enabled on your phone, but if you think you might have it, there is a Google Assistant help page that will guide you through the setup process.Google Assistant’s Voice Match functionality, as part of a small pilot program, will now secure purchases made through its voice assistant. A company spokesperson clarified that the feature is new, and is intended to help safe, smart speaker and smart show purchases. It’s currently restricted to digital in-app purchases via Google Play.

Following the instructions on the support page of Google to enable the feature, we only saw the option to allow the existing fingerprint of the assistant or face unlocks methods of security. Other users have reported seeing the Voice Match menu option, but the software froze when they attempted to enable it.

Google has not officially announced this new feature, but the company has confirmed to Android Police that it has formally launched a pilot test. It’s possible that at its now canceled I / O 2020 event, which was set to take place this month, Google would announce it.

If you can get to the set-up screen, take special note of Google’s message ‘Keep in mind’: “People with a similar voice or recording may be able to confirm purchases on devices that you’re logged in.”

Voice assistants generally aren’t that secure. Professionals who deal with confidential client details have been told to shut off their smart speakers while operating from home; employees at Google or Amazon may be listening in on the files, so you won’t have any clue whether or not they are. This is a story of Indian Banking System + Mobile Wallets, which can entirely ruin your day if you don’t know how & when to use it, and I bet that most of the time, top of chain people don’t even know it.

I personally have been facing a lot of issues with the Mobile Wallets, and a recent transaction + conversation with the support team just made me go crazy.

Let’s start with when.

When

In this pandemic where a virus can be deadly upon contact, lots of people are avoiding cash/ going into ATMs (and let me tell you it’s not sanitized at all, even if it is, only God knows when).

I was purchasing two smartphones, (Realme C2 and Redmi 8A) and one headphone (Realme Buds 2) offline, with a total bill amount of Rs 15,299. The shop owner asked me whether I’ll be paying with cash or card, like almost all the time I replied saying, Card.

Believe me or not, some people in small-town still charge you extra for paying with Card. This type of thing happens all over India, and you can read a similar story here. Back to the story, the shop owner said that I’ll have to pay an extra 1% for debit cards and 1.5% for credit cards transaction.

I don’t usually like to argue with people with such a small mind, so I just asked them If they’ll accept any Mobile Wallet transaction and I got a positive response saying that he will accept Google Pay transaction.

Here comes the how part.

How

I usually face a lot of issues with Google Pay transactions. In my case, 9 out of 10 transactions always fail (SBI + HDFC bank connected), and there will be a long set back for the refund, and sometimes you don’t even know if you’ll get a refund or the amount will get credited to receivers account.

To give you an idea of how often Google Pay Fails, I did some test transaction and all of them failed.

So, I told the shop owner that I’ll do a direct bank transfer, but there is a twist also. You can do a quick transfer for Rs 10,000 at a time using SBI net banking or if you have ICICI or HDFC, you’ll have to wait at least 30 mins to do a transaction to a new beneficiary.

After thinking for a minute or two, I decided that I’ll do the transaction using PhonePe’s To Account Money Transfer option. Where you get a limit of total Rs 100,000/day with UPI, you can read more about UPI here.

Got the bank details from the shop owner and proceed with the transaction of Rs 15,299. I carefully checked the details and used the HDFC bank to do the transaction. Transaction Failed, as you can see in the screenshot below; that’s the straight-up result I got by using HDFC bank.

I do have SBI bank connected to my PhonePe account as well, so without spending any more time; I tried doing the payment using SBI bank. Now, waiting for the confirmation message to show the shop owner. I got an SMS saying that the money got deducted from my bank, OK. 30 seconds – payment pending, 1-minute payment pending, 2-minutes payment pending.

After waiting for about 2 minutes I tried contacting the support by clicking the (?) Contact PhonePe Support option and I think their bot bombed my Help request with the automated reply, check the screenshot below.

As you can see it on the screenshot above, the automated message (a freaking bot) told me to wait 4 minutes and I should get the confirmation. Obviously, 4 minutes passed and it gave me a few options to choose (with what exactly I need help with), and I choose the option Why is my transaction pending?

The Scene: I’m waiting at the shop to show the shop owner the screenshot that the payment has gone through so that I can grab the things and go home. But PhonePe is telling me to wait for 1 hour (obviously at the shop maybe) and I’ll get an update.

This is when and how the Indian banking system + mobile wallets combination gets dangerous. The Indian Govt and the Wallet developers are reaching to the shop owners and inspiring them to use these Apps and when the transaction fails, there is no one to give you an immediate response. You can see how quickly 1 hour became you’ll get a response within 24 hours.

The shop owner never trusts a pending transaction and going to give you the goods. So I decided to pay him with cash thinking that the transaction will get failed and I’ll get a refund. I paid the shop owner Rs 15,299 and left with my new gadgets. Also, I updated the PhonePe support team about the situation and told them to cancel the payment because it been already paid, via cash.

What happened next?

Long story short, I got a message from PhonePe after two days saying that the payment has gone through and they can’t do anything about it. At this point, I just wanted to punch the guy whos responding to an urgent message after two freaking days.

As you can see in the screenshots above, the Support Team doesn’t even read your replies, they don’t even understand the concert. They just send you a template of reply, that is common for any fucking support ticket.

Luckily the shop is about 10Kms away from my home, I’m considering the situation as lucky thinking that I didn’t make the transaction while traveling on a random shop. I have contacted the shop owner and he confirmed that he got the money, but he said that money might get refunded from his account even after getting credited to his account. I know it’s stupid but considering the IQ of support team like PhonePe, I’ll say he is OK.

I’m yet to receive a refund, which the shop owner will give me. He told me to wait for 2 days, hopefully, I’ll get my money back.

Moral of the Story

Don’t use any Indian Mobile Wallets if you care about your money. Or, if you have a lot of free time and want to spend time doing something completely nonsense, do what I did.
