Over the years, Apple has given many wonders to the world of technology, loved by all. But Apple also has its share of products and innovations, which were not accepted by the tech world and users and are abhorred. Butterfly Keyboard, which arrived with Mac Book 2015, had been a cause of concern for the users since its inception.
Taika Waititi, a movie director, had perfectly summed up the users’ frustration in 2020. Many users had been complaining about the keyboard since 2015, and it was in 2017 that the complaints increased and received media attention. It was reported by the users some keys just stopped working while other users said that it would register a single hit twice. Nonetheless, a petition was filed on change.org, urging the Cupertino tech giant to recall the Macbooks with the faulty butterfly keyboard. To make matters worse, a class-action suit was filed against the company over the defective keyboard row.
Although Apple’s explanation about introducing the Butterfly keyboard was that it would lead to precise and perfectly accurate typing, it also allowed Apple to built a keyboard, which was 40% thinner when compared to the one based on the concept of the scissor mechanism. Also, Apple had been working continuously to mitigate the issues caused by the Butterfly keyboard. Over the years, they did material changes on the butterfly keyboards in the sequential models of Mac Books. This also resulted in a downward trend when it came to complaints regarding the keyboards. Apple had also initiated a Keyboard Service Program where the customers could get their defective keyboards replaced for free. But now the company has finally decided to do away with the Butterfly Keyboard design completely.
Moving towards the future, Apple introduced the Magic keyboard. In a press release, Apple informed the world that the Magic keyboard would be available for the whole laptop line-up by Apple.”Magic Keyboards will provide the users with the best typing experience ever,” a high-level executive claimed. Apple is known to work on its design till the issue is fixed, and the change is welcomed by the customers. But, in the case of the ButterFly keyboard, it doesn’t seem to be the case.
Until now, it was one of the main reasons for the customers to look for an alternative for Mac Book. Now with the Magic Keyboard, Apple hopes to do better and leave the ghosts of the past behind as it gears up for the release of the new 13-inch Mac Book Pro.
